This webcam provides a real-time view of the historic lighthouse and the Mediterranean sky, making it an excellent way to observe current weather, cloud formations, visibility and the constantly changing light over La Mola.
La Mola Lighthouse
Faro de la Mola, also known as Far de la Mola, is one of Formentera's most famous landmarks. Standing at the eastern end of the island on the high plateau of La Mola, the lighthouse occupies a spectacular position above the Mediterranean Sea.
The lighthouse stands close to the edge of dramatic cliffs rising around 120 metres above the sea. The surrounding landscape is open, rugged and exposed to the Mediterranean, creating a completely different atmosphere from Formentera's famous sandy beaches and turquoise coves.
A Historic Formentera Landmark
La Mola Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on Formentera. Designed by engineer Emili Pou, it was built during the 19th century and officially entered service on 30 November 1861.
For more than 160 years, the lighthouse has been an important maritime landmark at the eastern end of Formentera. Its isolated location, white tower and dramatic surroundings have also made it one of the island's most photographed and recognisable places.
What You Can See
The La Mola live webcam gives you a close real-time view of the lighthouse together with the enormous Mediterranean sky above Formentera. Watch clouds moving across the island, changing visibility and the light transforming the landscape throughout the day.
Because La Mola is elevated and exposed, the camera is particularly interesting when the weather changes. Clear blue skies can quickly give way to dramatic cloud formations, while wind and passing weather systems create constantly changing conditions above the lighthouse.
Check La Mola Weather Live
The webcam is an excellent visual weather camera for eastern Formentera. Check current cloud cover, sunshine and visibility before travelling to La Mola or exploring this part of the island.
Weather conditions on the elevated La Mola plateau can sometimes look very different from those around the beaches and lower areas of Formentera. Comparing this webcam with our cameras at Es Caló, Es Pujols and Estany des Peix gives you a useful overview of conditions across the island.
A quick note: the webcam provides a live visual impression of current conditions, not an official weather or marine forecast. For sailing, boating or other weather-sensitive activities, always check the latest official forecast as well.
Sunrise at the Eastern End of Formentera
La Mola's position at the eastern end of Formentera makes this one of the island's special places to experience the early morning light. Around sunrise, the Mediterranean sky can change rapidly from deep blue to shades of pink, orange and gold.
Throughout the rest of the day, the open location provides an impressive view of changing Mediterranean weather, while dramatic cloud formations can make the webcam particularly spectacular during unsettled conditions.
La Mola & Jules Verne
La Mola also has an interesting connection with the French writer Jules Verne. Formentera and its lighthouse appear in his 1877 novel Hector Servadac, and a monument dedicated to the writer can be found beside the lighthouse.
The remote setting and immense Mediterranean horizon have helped give La Mola its reputation as a place at the edge of the world – an atmosphere that remains part of its appeal today.
From Lighthouse to Cultural Space
The historic lighthouse remains one of Formentera's great maritime landmarks. Since 2019, part of the building has also been used as a cultural and exhibition space, giving visitors another reason to discover this extraordinary location at the end of the La Mola plateau.
